In two separate incidents, people had received colored photocopies of the new 2,000 note

Bengaluru, Nov 16: A week after prime minister Narendra Modi announced scrapping of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes, people still continue to line up outside banks and ATMs to withdraw / deposit or exchange currency.

Though new Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 notes have been released by the RBI, there are already incidents of people receiving fake Rs 2,000 notes. Although not a counterfeit, these notes were mere photocopies of the new Rs 2,000 note.
In several places, people are still not accepting the new Rs 2,000 notes as they are unaware of the identification marks on the currency. In order to help people, the RBI released a few guidelines on how to identify the new Rs 2,000 note.
